“Home inspector” told never to set foot in reader’s house again

"Mike Holmes has done a great job exposing the joke that is the home inspection industry in Canada," writes A. Robert Cook

Ontario has moved to provincially regulate home inspectors.

It’s about time this happened everywhere in the country. Here is a recent post from our reader A. Robert Cook…

Mike Holmes has done a great job exposing the joke that is the home inspection industry in Canada. Working with realtors, many home inspectors main mission was not to “Blow the Deal,” leaving would-be homeowners with a house that was full of defects. I spoke to an Ontario home inspector about his qualifications. His answer, “I worked for a guy and took the course.” Big deal. One guy from a well known franchise in the GTA told me my eavestrough needed to be moved away from the house to avoid damage to the foundation. They went into an underground piping system that went into a pond in the subdivision. He was told to never set foot in my house again.

I find it ironic that Holmes’ inspection company is providing “make it right” inspections for some of the major home builders for “Holmes approved homes”. From what I am hearing from one development, the builders quality and (lack of) customer service is as poor as ever. The kicker is that his company also offers to do the PDI for new home owners.
